This darling spool-knit owl is as fun to make as it is to play with! Use this DIY to create any creatures you desire.

  • Step 1

    Gather your materials.

  • Step 3

    Continue knitting until your knitted spool is about 5 inches for a small animal body or 8 inches for a large animal body.

  • Step 5

    With the needle still on the yarn, pull to tighten your knitting until the top is closed.

  • Step 6

    Thread your yarn through a few loops at the top and tie a knot. Repeat to double knot.

  • Step 7

    Trim the extra length of yarn and tuck it inside your knitting. Don’t cut the extra yarn at the other end just yet!

  • Step 8

    Shape your animal’s body by adding fluff to the inside.

  • Step 9

    When you’re ready to close up your knitting, thread the needle onto the tail. Then, weave the needle through the last row of loops.

  • Step 10

    Pull tight to cinch the bottom closed. Thread your needle through another loop and knot it tightly. Weave in the tail.

  • Step 11

    And wiggly eyes and cut out felt shapes to bring your animal to life!
